“Who’s Afraid of the Multiverse?”
Is the multiverse hypothesis science fiction, a plausible alternative to a God-created universe, or maybe even consistent with scripture? In this talk, I use Dr. Jeff Zweerink’s booklet as a launching point to review the history of the multiverse, the different multiverse models, the scientific nature of the multiverse, and how the multiverse hypothesis may or may not fit in with scripture. Whatever you think of its validity, Christians should have a basic understanding of this increasingly mainstream idea which is often presented as a viable alternative to a purposeful creation.

No, all that does is push the contingently caused event up a stack level. It can’t be turtles all the way up, either. Some non-contingent event had to be the First Cause, but because that speaks of just an abstract hint of God, it’s off to the races with even more multi-verses.
Russell, have you read the book or planning to attend her lecture?
Dr. Zweerink’s booklet? No, I have not.
I would attend Dr. Salviander’s lecture if I lived nearby, but unfortunately I do not.
Russell, yes, those who propose the multiverse as an alternative to a God-created universe have just pushed things back a level and say, “okay, we’re good now.” I find that people with this mindset often stop in the chain of logic at the point where they’re comfortable and don’t pursue it to the end.
My experience has been people that think like that also classify God as a being among other beings, like Bertrand Russell’s celestial tea-pot, and act like that’s a devastating line of attack. It’s not, because God isn’t a tea-pot, celestial or otherwise. He’s non-contingent, which makes Him profoundly different than any other material, contingent thing.
